IMD Weather Alert has forecast rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across several parts of India from October 5 to 10.
The weather activity is expected across northern, eastern, northeastern, central and southern regions, with some areas likely to receive heavy showers.
IMD Weather Alert for 20 States
The India Meteorological Department has forecast unsettled weather conditions across a wide area during the week.
While rainfall may remain light or scattered in many places, isolated areas could receive heavy rain, while thunderstorms and lightning may accompany the showers.
Strong winds are also expected in some pockets, particularly during thunderstorms. Winds could reach around 60 kmph in certain areas, according to the forecast.
Delhi, UP and North India Weather Forecast
Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive light to scattered rainfall between October 6 and 10.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh is expected to remain under the influence of rain from October 5 to 10.
Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab may see thunderstorms between October 7 and 9, with winds of around 30–40 kmph and gusts reaching nearly 50 kmph in some areas.
Himachal Pradesh may experience thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds between October 6 and 8. Winds could reach 40–50 kmph, with gusts touching 60 kmph.
Uttarakhand may also experience stronger winds and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Rain and Thunderstorms in East and Central India
Bihar is likely to receive heavy rainfall on October 5, followed by lighter rain, thunderstorms and lightning in the following days.
Jharkhand may receive rain between October 5 and 9, with thunderstorms and lightning particularly likely on October 7 and 8.
West Bengal, Odisha and Sikkim are also expected to receive rain between October 5 and 10.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal could see isolated heavy showers, while parts of Gangetic West Bengal may experience winds of 30–40 kmph.
Chhattisgarh may receive rain from October 6 to 10, with thunderstorms and lightning likely between October 6 and 8.
East Madhya Pradesh is expected to see rainfall from October 7 to 9, while West Madhya Pradesh may receive rain on October 9 and 10.
South India May Also See Heavy Rain
Several southern states are expected to experience rainfall during this period.
The IMD forecast indicates heavy rain in parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds in some areas.
Kerala and Mahe may receive fairly widespread rainfall during parts of the period, while coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu could experience heavy rainfall.
Tamil Nadu may also see thunderstorms and gusty winds, with speeds potentially reaching 40–50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph.
The IMD’s October 6 update also shows thunderstorm and lightning warnings for several northern regions, including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir, during the coming days.
IMD Weather Alert conditions are expected to vary by region, with rainfall intensity changing from one area to another.
