The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh rain alert for several parts of India.
Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh are expected to see the heaviest rainfall during the next 24 hours.
The weather system is linked to a low-pressure area over southwestern Uttar Pradesh and nearby regions.
It is likely to move east-northeastward, bringing widespread rain to several states.
Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are also expected in many parts of northern and central India over the coming days.
Uttarakhand and Western UP Under Highest Alert
Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh are currently at the centre of the weather activity.
The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy rain possible in both regions during the next 24 to 48 hours.
Uttarakhand may experience heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning on September 6-7, with another spell expected between September 10 and 12.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh is also likely to receive widespread rain between September 6 and 8, while heavy rainfall may continue in the state through September 9.
Delhi-NCR and Nearby States May Also Get Heavy Rain
The rain alert is not limited to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan may experience heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.
Madhya Pradesh and Bihar are also expected to remain active, with several areas likely to receive rain over the next few days.
Residents in these areas should be prepared for sudden changes in weather, especially during thunderstorms.
Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to See More Rain
Central India is also likely to remain under the influence of the weather system.
Western Madhya Pradesh may receive widespread rain on September 6-7, while eastern Madhya Pradesh is expected to see rain from September 6-8.
Another spell of rain is possible in eastern Madhya Pradesh on September 11-12.
Chhattisgarh is also likely to receive widespread rainfall between September 8 and 12, with heavy rain expected in some areas from September 9 to 12.
Vidarbha may see widespread rain between September 10 and 12.
Bihar, Bengal and Odisha Also on Rain Watch
Eastern India is expected to remain rainy for much of the week.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may receive very heavy rainfall today.
Heavy rain is also expected in Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha during different periods over the coming days.
Bihar could see heavy rainfall from September 6-8, while Gangetic West Bengal may receive heavy rain from September 7-9.
Odisha is likely to see heavy rain from September 9-12.
The IMD has also warned of moderate to severe lightning activity in Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal.
Northeast India to Remain Wet
Several northeastern states are also expected to receive widespread rainfall.
Arunachal Pradesh may see rain from September 7-12, while Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive rain from September 6-8 and again on September 11-12.
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may experience rainfall between September 6 and 12.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning are possible in many areas during this period.
Western India Could Also See Rain
Konkan and Goa are expected to receive widespread rainfall from September 6-12.
Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra and Kutch may also see light to moderate rain at some places during the same period.
Meanwhile, rainfall activity in most of peninsular India is expected to remain relatively low over the next six to seven days.
However, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may receive heavy rain, while strong winds and thunderstorms are possible in Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Several areas recorded significant rainfall between September 5 and September 6.

Ghatigaon, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh: 8 cm
Ferozepur Jhirka, Nuh, Haryana: 7 cm
Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana: 7 cm
GB Nagar, Mayurbhanj, Odisha: 7 cm
Chiephobozou-Nerhema, Nagaland: 7 cm
Fishermen Advised to Stay Alert
The IMD has also issued a warning for fishermen in parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
Sea conditions may remain dangerous near the Somalia coast and along the Oman coast until September 11.
Fishermen have also been advised to remain cautious along the south Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and southwest Bay of Bengal between September 8 and 11.
With heavy rain, lightning and strong winds expected across several regions, people in affected areas are advised to closely follow local weather warnings over the coming days.
