IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert in 21 States for June 30

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major weather alert for June 30, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning,

and strong winds across 21 states. Wind speeds may reach 70 to 75 kmph in several areas, increasing the risk of falling trees, damage to crops, and travel disruptions.

People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions, especially in forested and hilly areas. Farmers have also been asked to stay alert as heavy rain and hailstorms could damage standing crops.

Why Is the Weather Becoming Severe?

According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is active in the middle troposphere, while another weather trough is extending from northeastern Madhya Pradesh to Telangana in the lower atmosphere.

These weather systems are expected to trigger widespread rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across large parts of India.

In some areas, hailstorms have also been predicted. Authorities have advised people to stay indoors during intense storms and avoid taking shelter under trees.

The weather department has issued rain and thunderstorm warnings for the following states on June 30:

Delhi Weather: Rain and Storm Alert

Delhi is expected to witness heavy rain and thunderstorms on June 30. Wind speeds may reach 50 to 60 kmph during the day.

Minimum temperature: 31°C

Residents have been advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms.

Uttar Pradesh Weather: Several Districts on Alert

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have been forecast in many districts of Uttar Pradesh, including:

Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura, Agra, Gonda, Sultanpur, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Mahoba, Etah, Mainpuri, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj.

Lucknow is expected to record:

Bihar Weather: Strong Winds and Heavy Rain Expected

Several districts of Bihar may experience heavy rain and strong storms on June 30. The affected districts include:

Patna, Gaya, Nawada, Aurangabad, Siwan, Bhojpur, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, and Munger.

Wind speeds may reach 65 to 70 kmph.

Patna temperature forecast:

Minimum temperature: 28°C

Jharkhand May Face Strongest Storms

Jharkhand is likely to witness severe weather conditions, with wind speeds expected to touch 80 to 90 kmph in some areas.

The alert covers:

Ranchi, Simdega, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Bokaro, Deoghar, Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, and Palamu.

Maximum temperature: 30°C

Minimum temperature: 24°C

Uttarakhand and Himachal on High Alert

Heavy rain and storms are expected in several hill districts of Uttarakhand between June 30 and July 2, including Nainital, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Haridwar, Bageshwar, Rishikesh, Almora, and Rudraprayag.

Strong winds may reach 70 to 80 kmph.

In Himachal Pradesh, districts such as Shimla, Kullu, Kangra, Solan, Hamirpur, and Sirmaur are expected to receive heavy rainfall through July 1.

Jammu and Kashmir Also Under Warning

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have been forecast in Jammu, Poonch, Kupwara, Kulgam, Udhampur, Kathua, Reasi, Anantnag, and Ganderbal from June 30 to July 2.

Srinagar temperature forecast:

Maximum temperature: 33°C

Minimum temperature: 21°C

West Bengal, Punjab, Rajasthan, and MP to See Severe Weather

West Bengal districts including Kolkata, Howrah, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Malda, and Murshidabad may experience heavy rain and winds of up to 60 kmph.

Punjab districts such as Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Pathankot, and Ferozepur are also under thunderstorm alert.

Rajasthan has issued a yellow alert for moderate to heavy rain in Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, and several other districts, with wind speeds expected to reach 60 to 65 kmph.

In Madhya Pradesh, cities including Bhopal, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Dewas, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Balaghat, and Chhatarpur are expected to receive heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
