IMD Alert: Rain and Storms to Bring Relief from Heat in 10 States

Are you also tired of the intense summer heat? The scorching sun has made daily life difficult across many parts of India. Now, there is some relief in sight.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major alert for rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in 10 states over the next 15 hours.

Wind speeds may reach up to 70–100 kmph in some areas, which is also expected to bring down temperatures and provide relief from the heatwave.

States Under Rain, Thunderstorm and Wind Alert

The IMD alert covers 10 states where weather conditions are expected to change rapidly. These include Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Punjab.

People in these regions are advised to stay alert due to the chances of lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds along with rain.

Delhi Weather: Heat Relief Followed by Rising Temperatures

Delhi will see mixed weather conditions between May 31 and June 4. On May 31, light rain and thunderstorms are expected in some areas along with strong winds.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for June 1, bringing chances of rain and storms. The temperature may stay around 38°C (max)

and 25°C (min) initially, but will rise again: June 2: around 39°C, June 3: around 40°C, June 4: around 41°C. So, short-term relief is expected before the heat returns.

Uttar Pradesh: Thunderstorms, Hailstorm Risk and Strong Winds

Uttar Pradesh is likely to experience rain and thunderstorms for the next two days. Strong winds up to 80 kmph are expected in around 20 districts, including Lucknow, Varanasi, and Prayagraj.

There is also a risk of lightning and hailstorms in some areas. Heavy rainfall may begin from June 1, especially in regions like Saharanpur.

Bihar and Rajasthan: Storms, Rain and Dust Events

Bihar is expected to see light to heavy rain on May 31, along with thunderstorms and possible hailstorms in districts like Patna, Rajgir, Siwan, and Bhagalpur.

Winds may reach up to 100 kmph in Patna. In Rajasthan, dust storms are likely in eastern areas, while western regions may see thunderstorms and hailstorms. Rain and storms are expected to bring a drop in temperature by 2–4°C.

Himachal, Uttarakhand and Punjab: Continued Rain Activity

Himachal Pradesh will see ongoing rainfall until June 4, along with thunderstorms and strong winds of 40–50 kmph in most districts. Uttarakhand may experience light to moderate rain, with thunderstorms in higher areas.

Winds of 40–50 kmph are expected, and snowfall is also possible in some high-altitude regions.

Punjab is also set to receive rainfall in several districts including Chandigarh, Mohali, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Gurdaspur, bringing relief from the heat.

West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Odisha: Coastal and Heavy Rain Alerts

In West Bengal, strong winds of 40–60 kmph are expected along the coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

Tamil Nadu is likely to see heavy rainfall in many districts including Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Salem, Madurai, and surrounding regions.

Rainfall activity may continue for the next week. Odisha will also face thunderstorms and gusty winds in several districts, while some coastal areas may remain hot and humid.
