As temperatures rise in the summer, electricity bills also tend to soar, especially with fans, air conditioners (ACs), and coolers running non-stop.
However, with a few smart choices, you can cut down your electricity consumption and save money.
The government has shared some simple tips to help reduce your electricity bill. Here are 4 effective steps to follow:
1. Choose Energy-Efficient Devices
When buying new electronic devices, check their energy efficiency ratings. The Ministry of Energy suggests opting for products with a 5-star rating.
For example, a 5-star rated AC can save up to 15% on electricity. The same applies to refrigerators, washing machines, and other home appliances. A smart choice now will save you money for years.
2. Switch to LED Bulbs and BLDC Fans
Traditional bulbs and tubelights use a lot of electricity. Switch to LED bulbs, which use much less power and provide better lighting.
Also, consider using BLDC (Brushless DC) fans, which consume about 50% less electricity than regular fans.
Over time, these small changes can make a big difference in your electricity consumption.
3. Harness Solar Energy
If your home gets plenty of sunlight, installing a solar panel system on your rooftop can be a great long-term investment.
Solar panels use sunlight to power your home, reducing your reliance on the grid and cutting down your electricity bills. While the setup cost might be high initially, the savings over time are worth it.
4. Set Your AC to 24°C
Using an AC can significantly increase your energy consumption. The government recommends setting your AC at 24°C.
This temperature keeps your space cool while also ensuring that your AC doesn’t consume excessive electricity.
Setting the AC to lower temperatures increases energy usage and can lead to higher bills.
