Government Supports Farmers with Diesel Subsidy for Irrigation

Due to global warming, climate conditions are changing rapidly, with agriculture being particularly affected.

Even though normal rainfall was forecasted for this year, there has been a shortfall. As a result, farmers are facing difficulties.

To help address this issue and provide necessary irrigation support, the Diesel Subsidy Yojana has been introduced.

The online application for this subsidy began on July 26.

Rainfall Deficit and Its Effects

Typically, 462.9 mm of rain is expected by this time of year, but only 314.3 mm has been recorded—32% less than normal.

This deficit has impacted paddy and other crop plantations.

For instance, paddy is to be sown in 3,660,973 hectares this year,

but only 1,703,802 hectares have been planted so far.

Similarly, maize is to be planted in 293,887 hectares, with only 192,018 hectares completed.

On July 25, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reviewed the situation and ordered the launch of the diesel subsidy scheme to aid farmers.

Both Rayat and non-Rayat farmers can benefit from this scheme. Rayat farmers must upload their rent receipt during application.

Non-Rayat farmers will be verified by local officials to ensure that only actual cultivators receive the subsidy.

Geo-tagged photos of the beneficiaries will be taken and uploaded.

Only those registered online will be eligible for this benefit.
