Government Reduces Prices of Essential Medicines

The government has recently announced a major relief for citizens, reducing the prices of 70 essential medicines, including painkillers and antibiotics.

This decision, made about two weeks after presenting the full budget for the financial year 2024-25, will lower the cost of treating many diseases.

NPPA Decision Details

The price reduction decision was taken at a recent meeting of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), which regulates the cost of essential medicines in the country.

The NPPA has officially notified that 70 medicines, including those for fever, infections, diabetes, blood pressure, heart conditions,

and lifestyle diseases, will see a price cut. Additionally, the NPPA has reduced the prices of 4 special formulation medicines.

Recent Price Cuts

Last month, the NPPA had already reduced the prices of 54 commonly used medicines and 8 special medicines in its 124th meeting.

This included price cuts for antibiotics, multivitamins, diabetes, and heart medications, as well as medicines for cancer treatment.

Impact on the Public

This price reduction will directly benefit millions of people across the country, making essential medicines more affordable.

The government’s move follows the budget announcement and continues its efforts to make healthcare more accessible.
