A decision by Ola Cabs CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has ignited a clash between Ola and Google.
Aggarwal has challenged Google by announcing that Ola Cabs will stop using Google Maps and switch to Ola Maps.
In response, Google has announced a price reduction of up to 70% for Indian API developers, with the new rates taking effect on August 1.
Bhavish Aggarwal also tagged a Google tweet, criticizing their “false generosity.” He has decided to stop using Google Maps for Ola cabs’ navigation services.
Ola will use its own map service, Ola Maps, instead. Bhavish Aggarwal has also offered Indian developers free access to this service for one year.
Google was surprised by this shift and responded by announcing a reduction in service charges for Indian developers.
Ola will save 100 crores through its maps
Bhavish Aggarwal has launched the Ola Maps API through his AI startup, Krutrim. He has invited developers to use Ola Maps for free for one year.
Going forward, Ola Maps will replace Google Maps in Ola cabs. Aggarwal stated that this change could save the company ₹100 crore annually, which was previously spent on Google services.
Dear @Google, too little too late!
Reducing prices for @googlemaps, “offering to price in ₹” after #ExitGoogleMaps. Don’t need your fake generosity!
Tomorrow, I’ll be writing a blog response and announcing major updates on Ola maps @Krutrim. Stay tuned! ???????????? pic.twitter.com/XlXfp10J2L

Google cuts service rates
This major change at Ola has caused a stir at Google. With Ola Maps entering the market, Google is concerned about losing customers in India.
In response, Google quickly announced a reduction in rates, specifically for Indian developers using its API services.
As a result of this decision, Google’s Geocoding API, previously priced at $5, will now cost $1.50. Additionally, Google will accept payments in rupees instead of dollars.
