On the 10th anniversary of Google for India, Google announced several new features for its apps and services
The company introduced updates for the AI model Gemini, as well as for Search and Maps.
Google shared that Gemini Live, which was previously available only in English, will now also support Hindi.
Additionally, support for eight other Indian languages will be added soon. Google Pay now offers personal and gold loans,
and the company highlighted that it has saved users from scams totaling ₹13,000 crores. Google Maps has been updated to provide real-time alerts for floods and fog.
New Loan Features in Google Pay
Google has introduced support for personal loans and gold loans on its UPI app, Google Pay.
The company partnered with Aditya Birla Capital Finance for personal loans and Muthoot Finance for gold loans.
Customers can now apply for personal loans of up to ₹5 lakhs and gold loans of up to ₹50 lakhs.
Protection from Scams
Under the DigiKawach initiative, Google has protected users from scams worth ₹13,000 crores and issued over 41 million warnings in 2023.
The company also reported that it automatically detected and removed more than 170 million fraudulent reviews on Google Maps.
Soon, Android users in India will benefit from an enhanced fraud protection feature, which will help protect them from malicious apps requesting sensitive permissions.
Gemini Live Now Supports Hindi and More Languages
Google announced that Gemini Live will support Hindi and eight other languages, allowing users to interact with the AI assistant for real-time responses.
The additional languages will include Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu.
The AI Overview, previously available only in Hindi and English, will soon be accessible in four new regional languages: Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Updates to Google Maps
Google is rolling out several updates to Google Maps to enhance user experience.
The app will now provide real-time weather updates along with alerts for fog and floods to help users choose the best travel routes.
Additionally, Google Maps will feature an AI-powered summary review tool to give quick insights about restaurants, hotels, and more.
Improved Navigation Features
New navigation features in Google Maps will include an AI-powered routing system that helps cars avoid narrow roads.
The Flyover Callout feature will inform users whether they need to take a flyover on their route.
Convenient Booking Options
For electric vehicle owners, Google Maps will display nearby EV charging stations based on location.
Moreover, users can now book metro tickets through the app, making travel more convenient.
A new List to Explore feature has also been added, helping users discover and explore new places.
