The Bhajan Lal government in Rajasthan is planning a major change in two popular scooty schemes for meritorious girl students — the Kalibai Bhil Medhavi Chhatra Scooty Yojana and the Devnarayan Chhatra Scooty Vitaran Yojana.
Instead of giving scooters directly, the government will now transfer a fixed amount into the bank accounts of eligible students through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
This means girls will be free to buy any scooty brand or model they prefer.
The move is expected to save time and make the entire process faster and more convenient for students.
Why the Government Changed the System
For years, students faced long delays in receiving their scooters.
The government had to purchase thousands of scooters, transport them to districts, and then distribute them to students.
Because of this lengthy process, many selected students had to wait two to three years to get their scooters. In several cases, students are still waiting.
To solve this issue, the government has decided to send money directly to students’ bank accounts instead of distributing scooters physically.
According to Surendra Singh, Professor at Government College Jhunjhunu and district nodal officer for the scheme, this new system will apply to both major scooty schemes from the 2024-25 session onward.
Students Will Now Have More Freedom
Under the new system, girl students will no longer be limited to government-selected scooter models.
They can choose a scooty according to their needs, budget, and personal preference.
The decision is also expected to reduce problems related to storage, transportation, and distribution at colleges and district offices.
Officials believe this will make the scheme more transparent, quicker, and student-friendly.
Thousands of Students to Benefit
The new decision will benefit a large number of students across Rajasthan.
As per district officials:
Around 702 eligible students in Jhunjhunu district will benefit
Nearly 800 students in Sikar district are included
Across Rajasthan, about 25,977 selected girl students will receive the amount instead of scooters
However, the government has not yet announced the exact amount that will be transferred into students’ accounts.
Important Update for Students
Students who are eligible under the scheme must update their bank account details in the application form.
The bank account must be in the name of the girl student. Students will also need to upload:
A copy of the bank passbook, or
A cancelled cheque
Students who have not updated their details yet are advised to visit the nearest e-Mitra centre as soon as possible.
Deadline is Near
The last date to update bank details is 7 May 2026.
District-level verification will continue till 8 May 2026.
However, there are chances that the government may extend the deadline further.
Officials Call It a Step Towards Empowerment
District Nodal Officer Dr. Surendra Kumar described the decision as more than just a procedural change.
According to him, the new system gives girl students greater independence and flexibility while also reducing administrative burden on colleges.
The Bhajan Lal government sees this move as a major step towards faster delivery of benefits and better empowerment of female students in Rajasthan.
