After the introduction of the Ujjwala Yojana, the use of LPG gas cylinders has spread rapidly from cities to villages.
However, many people are unaware that these government-provided cylinders come with free accident insurance up to Rs 50 lakh.
Coverage Details and Claim Process
The highly flammable nature of LPG gas can sometimes lead to accidents, despite precautions. In such cases, customers and their families are entitled to compensation through this insurance.
Provided by petroleum companies, this coverage offers financial assistance up to Rs 50 lakh for accidents, such as gas leaks or explosions.
Here’s how the insurance works:
The entire family is covered, with Rs 10 lakh per member.
Different amounts are allocated for property damage, medical treatment, and death.
A maximum of Rs 40 lakh can be claimed for accident-related injuries, and Rs 50 lakh in case of death due to a cylinder explosion.
Conditions for Claiming Insurance
To avail this insurance, certain conditions must be met:
The cylinder pipe, stove, and regulator must have an ISI mark.
Regular checks of the cylinder and stove are required.
The accident must be reported to the distributor and police station within 30 days.
During the claim process, you need to provide documents such as:
FIR copy of the accident
Medical receipts
Hospital bills
Postmortem report (if applicable)
Death certificate (if applicable)
Additionally, you cannot name a nominee in this policy, and compensation is only given if the accident occurs at a registered residence.
If all conditions are fulfilled, the distributor informs the oil and insurance companies about the accident, leading to the disbursement of the insurance amount.
