Finance Minister reduces Customs Duty by 15% on Mobile Phones and Chargers

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the general budget today, July 23. She has announced that mobile phones and chargers will become cheaper.

Sitharaman highlighted that domestic production has significantly increased over the past six years.

The Finance Minister also announced a 15% reduction in customs duty on mobile parts, gadgets, and PVC manufacturing components to boost domestic production.

This means customers will likely find new smartphones and chargers cheaper.

‘Mobile production increased 3 times’

Following the customs duty reduction, mobile phones and chargers are expected to become much cheaper.

Nirmala Sitharaman also noted that mobile phone production in India has tripled.

Additionally, the budget includes plans to reduce the costs of electric wires and X-ray machines.

This announcement was made earlier

In January, the government had announced a reduction in import duty on smartphone components to 10 percent.

Now, with the reduction in Basic Customs Duty (BCD), it’s clear that the government is not only encouraging smartphone manufacturing in the country but also aiming to lower prices for customers.

The government has also reduced Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on components and minerals used to make lithium-ion batteries,

which are found in devices with rechargeable batteries.
