While central government employees are still waiting for benefits under the Eighth Pay Commission, the Assam government has announced good news for its employees and pensioners.

The state government has increased Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) by 2%.

With this hike, the DA rate has gone up from 58% to 60%.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The revised DA and DR rates will be effective from January 1, 2026.

Employees and Pensioners to Get More Money

The increase in DA will provide additional financial support to government employees and pensioners, especially at a time when the cost of living continues to rise.

The revised amount will be paid along with the June 2026 salary, giving employees a welcome boost in their monthly income.

How Much Will Your Salary Increase?

The exact benefit will depend on an employee’s basic salary.

For example, if an employee’s basic salary is ₹30,000, the DA amount at 58% was ₹17,400.

After the increase to 60%, the DA will become ₹18,000.

This means the employee will receive an additional ₹600 every month.

Similarly, an employee with a basic salary of ₹50,000 was getting ₹29,000 as DA at the earlier rate. With the new 60% DA, the amount will rise to ₹30,000.

As a result, the monthly benefit will increase by ₹1,000.

Major Decision for Grade 4 Employees

Along with the DA hike, the Assam government has also announced an important decision for Grade 4 employees.

The cabinet has approved amendments to the Assam Secondary Education (Provincialized Schools) Service Rules, 2026.

The move is aimed at making promotions easier and more transparent for lower-level staff.

Promotion Process to Become Easier

Under the revised rules, the process of promoting Grade 4 employees to Grade 3 posts in schools and government departments will be simplified and regularized.

The decision is expected to create better career growth opportunities for thousands of employees working in lower-level positions across the state.

With the DA hike and promotion-related reforms, the Assam government has taken two important steps that could benefit a large number of employees and pensioners in the state.
