India’s leading online travel platform, EaseMyTrip, has resumed bookings for the Maldives.
The company stated that it made this decision after the Government of India and the Maldives improved their relations and held constructive discussions with the Maldives Ministry of Tourism.
Easy Trip Planners Limited, which operates the travel tech platform EaseMyTrip.com, announced in a regulatory filing with the stock exchange that it has decided to resume bookings for the Maldives.
This decision comes after an improvement in the bilateral relations between the governments of both countries.
Regarding this decision, EasyMyTrip’s co-founder and CEO, Nishant Pitti, stated, “Due to the positive developments in bilateral relations between India and the Maldives, we are resuming bookings for the Maldives.
We made this decision after fruitful discussions during the recent visit of Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism representatives to India and our office.
As a nation-first company, we always support our government and its vision. This step promotes friendship and tourism between the two countries.”
Tensions between India and the Maldives rose after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep earlier this year.
Some ministers in the Maldives government made inappropriate comments on social media about PM Modi’s visit.
This disrespect towards the Prime Minister and the country was not well-received by Indians and many companies, leading to a boycott of the Maldives.
In response, EaseMyTrip canceled all flight bookings as a protest against the Maldives government.
CEO Nishant Pitti posted on X that the company stands united with the nation and is therefore suspending all flight bookings to the Maldives.
