Delhi to Issue New Ration Cards After More Than a Decade

One of the biggest highlights of the announcement is that Delhi will finally begin issuing new ration cards again after many years.

According to the government, new ration cards had not been issued in the capital since 2013.

The Delhi government also revealed that over 3.72 lakh ration card applications have been pending for the last 13 years.

However, these old applications will now be cancelled, and applicants will have to submit fresh applications under the new system.

Officials say this step is being taken to create a cleaner and updated database.

At present, only families with annual income up to ₹1.25 lakh are eligible to apply for a ration card in Delhi.

However, the government says this limit may soon increase to ₹2.5 lakh annually, which could bring a large number of additional families under the scheme.

People applying for a new ration card may need the following documents:

Aadhaar card

Address proof

Income certificate

Family member details

Applicants are advised to keep these documents ready before starting the online process.

Hopes Rise for Mahila Samriddhi Yojana Benefits

The announcement has also increased hopes among women waiting for benefits under the proposed Mahila Samriddhi Yojana.

Under the scheme, eligible women may receive ₹2,500 per month.

Reports suggest that ration cards could become an important eligibility document for receiving this benefit.

Apart from this, ration cards are also necessary for getting free wheat, rice, and sugar under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.

With the new rules and online process, many families in Delhi may finally get easier access to important government welfare schemes.
