The Delhi Traffic Police has launched another major crackdown to improve road safety and reduce dangerous driving across the capital.
In a special two-hour enforcement drive conducted on Saturday, police teams issued thousands of challans and took strict action against drivers violating traffic rules.
The operation was carried out between 4 PM and 6 PM in several accident-prone and sensitive areas of Delhi with the support of local police teams.
Over 2,800 Challans Issued in Just Two Hours
According to police officials, a total of 2,846 challans were issued during the special drive.
Out of these, 757 challans were specifically issued for wrong-side driving, which remains one of the biggest traffic problems in Delhi.
Police also registered FIRs against 32 drivers for dangerous and reckless driving.
These drivers were allegedly putting other people’s lives at risk by driving in the wrong direction.
Cases were registered under:
Section 281 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)
Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA)
The strict action shows that authorities are now focusing more aggressively on repeat and dangerous offenders.
Wrong-Side Driving Was the Main Target
Delhi Traffic Police said the primary focus of this campaign was to stop wrong-side driving.
Officials believe this violation is one of the biggest reasons behind:
Serious road accidents
Sudden traffic congestion
Dangerous head-on collisions
The drive was mainly conducted at traffic hotspots where complaints about wrong-side driving are reported regularly.
Police teams set up checkpoints and pickets to catch violators directly on the roads.
Other Traffic Violations Were Also Checked
Apart from wrong-side driving, police also monitored several other traffic rule violations during the operation.
Action was taken against people involved in:
Drunk driving
Dangerous driving
Triple riding on two-wheelers
Riding without helmets
Vehicles with black film
Wrong parking
Officials said strict enforcement is necessary to improve road discipline and reduce accidents in the city.
Delhi Police Appeals to Drivers
The Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to all commuters to follow traffic rules carefully and always use the correct lane while driving.
According to officials, driving on the wrong side not only puts the driver at risk but also creates serious danger for innocent people on the road.
Police have warned that such enforcement drives will continue in the future as authorities try to make Delhi’s roads safer for everyone.
