Delhi PM Surya Ghar Scheme registration has started on September 21, 2026, offering eligible households rooftop solar systems under the Delhi government’s implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
The scheme will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Under the scheme, eligible domestic electricity consumers can get a rooftop solar system of up to 3 kilowatts without an initial payment.
Systems above 3 kilowatts can also receive a subsidy of up to Rs 1.56 lakh, according to the details released by the Delhi government.

People interested in the scheme can register through solar.delhi.gov.in. Since benefits are being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, applicants are advised to complete the registration process according to the eligibility and application requirements.
The scheme follows the Delhi Cabinet’s approval of the revised solar policy. The government has said the policy is intended to encourage greater use of rooftop solar power among domestic electricity consumers.
Free Solar Systems for Eligible Homes
The Delhi government has set a target of installing rooftop solar systems on around 2.30 lakh houses by March 2027. The facility is intended for eligible households with electricity consumption of up to 400 units per month.
The government aims to add a total of 500 MW of rooftop solar capacity across Delhi through the scheme. The installation for each household will depend on technical feasibility and the inspection of the respective property.
How Households Can Benefit From Solar Power
A 3-kilowatt rooftop solar system can generate around 300 units of electricity, according to the scheme details provided by the Delhi government. A household using around 200 units could use the solar-generated power and potentially send surplus electricity to the grid.
This can help eligible households reduce their dependence on electricity purchased from the grid while also benefiting from the applicable electricity subsidy and rooftop solar generation.
Delhi Government Pushes Rooftop Solar
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that the Delhi government is focusing on increasing the use of solar energy in the capital. The rooftop solar programme is part of the revised solar policy approved by the Delhi Cabinet.
The government will determine the installation capacity and feasibility based on the technical conditions of each household. Applicants should therefore check the official scheme requirements before completing registration.
