New Delhi:
Passengers traveling from Delhi Airport now have access to a new self-drop baggage system, promising quicker check-in times.
Delhi International Airport has introduced a self-drop baggage system that significantly reduces the time passengers spend from check-in to receiving their baggage tag and boarding pass. T
This innovation cuts down the process to just 30 seconds, a considerable improvement from the previous 1-minute duration.
Where and for Which Airlines This Facility is Available
The self-drop baggage system is currently available at Terminals 1 and 3 of Delhi Airport.
It features 50 self-service baggage drop units, benefiting passengers flying with Air India, Air India Express, and Indigo.
How Automatic Self-Drop Baggage Machines Work
Bag Tag Collection and Attachment: Passengers collect and attach their bag tags at CUSS (Common Use Self Service) kiosks located within the airport.
Baggage Drop Process: Bags are placed on a Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) conveyor belt after bag tag attachment.
Automatic Verification: The SBD machine opens the airline’s application with a single click and prompts passengers to sign a self-declaration form.
Criteria Check: The system checks all necessary criteria and commercial rules set by the airlines.
Automated Processing: Once verification is complete, the luggage is processed automatically.
Boarding pass and biometric validation are unnecessary as these details are already encoded in the baggage tag.
Delhi Airport Leading the Way
Delhi Airport has become India’s first and the world’s second airport to implement such a self-drop baggage service, following a similar setup in Toronto, Canada.
This initiative aims to streamline the check-in process, offering passengers a faster and more convenient experience at the airport.
