Air passengers in the Mithila region are facing fresh trouble as flight services from Darbhanga Airport continue to shrink. IndiGo Airlines has now taken another major decision that will directly impact travelers to key cities like Kolkata and Hyderabad.

The airline has announced the suspension of its Darbhanga–Kolkata flight service from June 16. Along with this, the frequency of flights to Hyderabad has also been reduced, leading to growing frustration among passengers.

Kolkata Flight to Stop Completely After June 16

IndiGo currently operates regular flights between Darbhanga and Kolkata. However, this service will no longer continue after June 16.

This decision is a big setback for people who depend on this route for medical treatment, jobs, business, and education in Kolkata. The flight service, which started around five years ago, had become an important travel option for people in North Bihar.

With the suspension, passengers will now have to rely on long train journeys or travel via Patna Airport, both of which take more time and effort.

Hyderabad Flights Reduced, Weekly Schedule Changed

Travelers on the Darbhanga–Hyderabad route will also face inconvenience. The number of flights has been reduced, and now services will operate only four days a week.

There will be no flights to Hyderabad on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This change is expected to affect IT professionals and passengers who use connecting flights for other destinations.

Many passengers feel that instead of improving connectivity, flight options at Darbhanga Airport are being reduced despite increasing demand.

Local People Express Concern Over Decision

Local residents and social groups have strongly opposed these changes. They say passenger traffic at Darbhanga Airport has been growing steadily, but flight services are being cut instead of expanded.

People also pointed out that fares to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru are already high. The suspension of Kolkata flights and reduced Hyderabad services will make travel even more difficult and expensive.

Passengers have urged the Ministry of Civil Aviation to restore and improve flight connectivity from Darbhanga Airport as soon as possible.
