Cold Wave in North India and Heavy Rain Forecast for South

Amidst the ongoing severe cold in North India, the Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for several southern states over the next three days.

A low-pressure area has developed in the Southwest Bay of Bengal, leading to predictions of heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and North Tamil Nadu from December 18 to December 20.

On December 19, coastal Andhra Pradesh is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, while heavy rain is forecast for December 18 and 20.

Additionally, Tamil Nadu is on alert for heavy rain on December 18, and Rayalaseema may experience significant rainfall on December 18 and 19.

Cold Wave Grips North India

Severe cold wave conditions are likely to persist in Northwest India for the next five to seven days.

In the last 24 hours, regions such as Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, East Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra,

and Kutch have experienced cold wave to severe cold wave conditions. Ground frost was observed in Himachal Pradesh, while dense fog occurred during the morning

and night in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.

The minimum temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh have dipped below zero degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, the minimum temperatures range between 0-6 degrees Celsius.

Other parts of Northwest, Central, and Western India are experiencing minimum temperatures between 6-12 degrees Celsius.

Notable Temperature Drop in Rajasthan

Western Rajasthan recorded the lowest temperature in the plains at 1.8 degrees Celsius in Churu today.

Over the past 24 hours, a significant drop of 2-4 degrees Celsius was observed in the region’s minimum temperature.
