ChatGPT Search has become easier to access. OpenAI has announced that the feature is now available to everyone, without the need to sign up.
This update makes internet searching through ChatGPT much more convenient, putting additional pressure on Google. Here’s a closer look at this development.
Launch and Features of ChatGPT Search
ChatGPT Search was introduced in October of last year. While ChatGPT was originally just a chatbot answering questions from its own dataset, this new search feature allows ChatGPT to browse the internet, giving it access to real-time information.
This makes it suitable for obtaining news, weather updates, and other current events.
In contrast, the regular ChatGPT chatbot is still useful for tasks like creative writing, brainstorming, and answering questions that don’t require up-to-date data.
ChatGPT’s Growing Popularity
Recent data shows that ChatGPT is now more popular than Google. Researchers report that ChatGPT had 3.7 billion visits, surpassing Google Chrome’s 3.45 billion.
This highlights the rising preference for AI chatbots like ChatGPT over traditional search engines. Google Search is facing increased competition,
and its market share has seen a decline. For the first time in nearly a decade, Google’s share of the internet search market dropped below 90%, a milestone it hadn’t reached since 2015.
In late 2023, Google Search’s market share was reported at 89.34% in October, 89.99% in November, and 89.73% in December.
