Amazon Prime Video is set to change its rules regarding the number and types of devices you can use to stream content.
Currently, Prime members can log in to a maximum of five devices without restrictions on the type of device. However, this is about to change in the coming weeks.
New Device Rules Starting January 2025
According to Amazon’s help page, new limits will take effect in January 2025. Under the updated rules:
1) You will still be able to stream on a maximum of five devices.
2) Out of these five, only two can be TVs.
3) You can remove and replace up to two devices within a 30-day period.
This means that if you want to stream on more than two TVs simultaneously, you will need an additional Prime membership.
For now, there are no restrictions on the type of devices within the five-device limit. These can include any combination of mobile phones, laptops, or TVs.
Amazon Notifying Users via Email
Amazon has started informing users about these changes through email. The email states:
“Thank you for becoming a Prime member and giving us the opportunity to entertain you.
As part of your Prime membership, you and your family are entitled to enjoy Prime Video on up to five devices.
Starting January 2025, we are updating our terms of use in India to include up to two TVs as part of your five-device eligibility.”
The email also encourages users to manage their devices via the Settings page or purchase an additional Prime membership if they need more device access.
These updates highlight Amazon’s efforts to better manage device access under Prime Video subscriptions.
