Central Govt mandates third party Insurance for all Vehicles

The central government has taken a major step to reduce the risk of road accidents by making third party insurance mandatory for all vehicles.

Driving without third party insurance is a punishable offence

As stated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, operating a motor vehicle without valid motor third-party insurance is a punishable offense.

Section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 mandates that all vehicles on Indian roads must have third-party insurance to cover risks to third parties.

Third-party insurance is not only a legal necessity but also a crucial aspect of responsible road usage.

It ensures support for accident victims and damage coverage.

There can be jail along with fine

As per the details, driving or permitting someone to drive without third-party insurance can lead to legal consequences.

Offenders may face imprisonment and fines for breaking the law.

Under the new regulations, the penalty for a first-time offense includes up to three months of imprisonment and a Rs 2000 fine.

For subsequent violations, the penalty can escalate to three months’ imprisonment and a Rs 4000 fine.

Renew your policy as soon as possible 

If your vehicle’s insurance has expired or is about to expire in such a situation, ensure to renew the policy immediately.

Otherwise, this oversight can result in significant costs. Competent officials are responsible for enforcing these rules.
