BSNL Free Insurance is being offered with select prepaid mobile plans, giving eligible subscribers accidental-death coverage of up to ₹1 lakh and cyber-fraud protection of up to ₹10,000.
The benefit comes without a separate insurance premium for subscribers taking the eligible plans.
The insurance benefit is linked to BSNL’s STV 202 and STV 2449 prepaid plans.
According to the reported details, subscribers will receive the insurance cover as part of the recharge rather than paying separately for the policy.
BSNL Free Insurance Comes With Select Plans
The STV 202 and STV 2449 plans include accidental-death insurance cover of ₹1 lakh.
They also provide cyber-fraud protection of up to ₹10,000 under the insurance arrangement.
The cyber-fraud cover is applicable when the customer’s BSNL mobile number is linked to their bank account, according to the reported details.
Covered situations include certain losses involving cyber fraud, phishing and email spoofing.
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director A Robert J Ravi has said the company is taking insurance to people who may not previously have had access to such protection.
The initiative is particularly being positioned as relevant to customers in rural and semi-urban areas.
How the Insurance Benefit Will Work
Subscribers do not need to pay a separate premium for the insurance benefit.
After an eligible recharge, an activation SMS is expected to be sent, with the insurance cover generated using the customer’s registered name.
The benefit therefore works differently from purchasing a standalone insurance policy.
Customers first need to use one of the eligible BSNL prepaid plans, while the precise terms and conditions of the insurance cover remain applicable.
₹1 Lakh Accidental Cover and Cyber Protection
The ₹1 lakh accidental-death cover and ₹10,000 cyber-fraud protection are the two key insurance benefits attached to the eligible prepaid plans.
The cyber-fraud component is intended to provide protection against specified financial losses arising from cyber-related incidents.
BSNL has partnered with Oriental Insurance Company for the insurance initiative, according to a report citing the telecom company’s leadership.
The arrangement expands BSNL’s prepaid offering beyond conventional mobile connectivity benefits.
The development comes as BSNL continues expanding its mobile services and 4G network.
The company has also introduced other customer-focused initiatives in 2026, including additional 4G sites and new prepaid and fibre offerings.
What BSNL Users Should Check
Users interested in the insurance benefit should check whether their chosen recharge is one of the eligible plans and review the applicable insurance terms before relying on the coverage.
The BSNL Free Insurance benefit is not a blanket feature for every BSNL prepaid recharge.
It is currently associated with the specified plans, making the recharge selected by the customer important when determining eligibility.
