Delhi commuters may have to deal with traffic restrictions on several important roads during the upcoming rehearsal period.
The restrictions could affect people travelling through central Delhi, diplomatic areas and key routes leading to the airport and railway stations.
Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance, leave home early and consider using the Metro to avoid unexpected delays.
Which Roads in Delhi Could Be Affected?
Several major roads and areas are expected to see traffic regulation or temporary closures.
These include:
Sardar Patel Marg
Mother Teresa Crescent
Mathura Road
Janpath
Ashoka Road
Shanti Path
India Gate
C-Hexagon
Mandi House
Dhaula Kuan
Moti Bagh
Traffic movement from parts of Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Janpath towards C-Hexagon and Connaught Place’s Outer Circle may also be restricted.
At Mandi House, vehicles heading towards Feroz Shah Road, Bhagwan Das Road and Copernicus Marg could face restrictions.
Traffic coming from the Dhaula Kuan Flyover towards Sardar Patel Marg and from the Moti Bagh Flyover towards Shanti Path may also be affected.
Travelling to Delhi Airport? Leave Early
Passengers heading to Indira Gandhi International Airport should allow extra time for their journey.
The restrictions could affect roads connecting to Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, particularly during the afternoon rehearsal period.
Travellers from Gurugram can consider routes through NH-48 or Old Delhi-Gurugram Road and then use alternative corridors towards the airport.
Those travelling from Dwarka can use Sector 22-Dwarka Road and the UER-II tunnel to reach the Terminal 3 side.
For passengers coming from other parts of Delhi, Ring Road and other diversion routes may be useful depending on live traffic conditions.
The Metro, especially the Airport Express Line, could be a more convenient option for many travellers.
If you have a flight, do not wait until the last minute. Leave early while keeping road diversions, airport security checks and airline reporting deadlines in mind.
Railway Passengers May Also Face Delays
Traffic restrictions could also affect people travelling to New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
Passengers heading towards New Delhi Railway Station may consider routes through ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Boulevard Road.
Ring Road may also be an option depending on the starting point.
Those travelling to Old Delhi Railway Station can consider the ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Ring Road corridors.
For Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, routes through AIIMS, Ashram Chowk and Ring Road may be useful.
However, traffic conditions can change quickly when motorcades are moving. Commuters should check live traffic updates before starting their journey.
Commercial Vehicles and Parking Rules
Commercial vehicles may also face restrictions on selected roads.
Some vehicles may not be allowed to travel beyond Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, also known as A-Point, towards W-Point.
This could affect local deliveries and goods movement in parts of central Delhi, so businesses and delivery operators should plan accordingly.
Roadside parking will also be prohibited within 200 metres of designated controlled roads.
Motorists should use authorised parking spaces to avoid penalties or having their vehicles removed.
Emergency Vehicles Will Get Priority
There is some relief for people dealing with emergencies.
Ambulances, emergency response vehicles and essential service vehicles will receive priority passage during the restrictions.
However, taxis, buses and autorickshaws may be temporarily diverted when VVIP motorcades pass through specific areas.
For regular commuters, avoiding central and diplomatic areas between 11 AM and 3 PM may help reduce the chances of getting stuck.
If travel during this period is unavoidable, leave with extra time and follow traffic instructions issued by Delhi Traffic Police.
