The Bihar government has announced a major relief for ration card holders and poor families in the state.

Under the new plan, lakhs of elderly and helpless people will no longer need to stand in long queues at ration shops every month.

The Food and Consumer Protection Department is preparing a new system to deliver government ration benefits directly to the homes of eligible families. This move is expected to benefit nearly 28 lakh consumers across Bihar.

Free Ration Will Reach Homes of Elderly Citizens

According to government data, around 6.87 lakh primary ration card holders in Bihar are above 80 years of age. These families together include nearly 28 lakh consumers.

Keeping their difficulties in mind, the state government has decided that families where all members are above 80 years old will now receive wheat and rice at their doorstep every month.

The ration will be delivered according to the fixed government rules and quantity limits.

This decision is expected to provide huge relief to elderly people who struggle to visit ration shops regularly.

Districts Asked to Prepare Lists

The Food and Consumer Protection Department has already started work on the scheme. All districts in Bihar have been asked to prepare lists of ration card holders who are 80 years or older.

At the same time, the department is also preparing detailed guidelines and a proper system to ensure ration reaches beneficiaries without any trouble or delay.

Officials say the goal is to make the process smooth and hassle-free for elderly citizens.

Scheme to Start in 3 Districts First

The government will not launch the scheme across Bihar immediately. First, it will begin as a pilot project in three selected districts.

After checking the results and improving the system if needed, the government plans to expand the scheme to all districts of Bihar.

This initiative is being seen as an important step towards helping senior citizens live with more dignity and convenience.
