There has been a significant increase in electricity prices in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) announced a 4.83 percent hike for domestic and all other consumers.
This increase, effective from July 1, aligns with the Consumer Price Inflation (CPI). TNERC stated that this step is to address the growing financial deficit in recent years.
New Tariff Details
According to the revised tariff, domestic consumers will see hikes ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 40, depending on their usage categories, as per a release from the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO).
Several opposition parties, including the Pattali Makkal Katchi and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, have opposed this tariff revision.
