Bank customers should check the holiday calendar before visiting their branch next week.

Between August 10 and August 16, 2026, banks will remain closed on three days in different parts of India due to a regional holiday, Independence Day and the regular Sunday holiday.

However, customers do not need to worry about digital banking.

UPI, internet banking, mobile banking and ATM services will continue to be available even when branches are closed.

Are Banks Open Today, August 8?

No. Banks across India are closed today, August 8, 2026, because it is the second Saturday of the month.

Banks in Gangtok are also observing a holiday for Tendong Lho Rum Faat.

Even though branches are closed, customers can continue using digital banking services such as UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs.

What Happens to Online Banking During Holidays?

Bank holidays mainly affect physical branches.

Digital banking services generally continue to operate.

Customers can use services such as UPI, NEFT, RTGS, internet banking and mobile banking to transfer money, pay bills and make online payments.

These services are available even on Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays and other bank holidays, subject to the applicable service rules.

However, customers should remember that a branch cannot process transactions that require physical banking services while it is closed.

What Are RBI Bank Holiday Categories?

The Reserve Bank of India broadly classifies bank holidays into different categories.

Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act: These holidays affect cheque clearing and certain branch-based banking activities.

RTGS Holidays: These are days when RTGS transactions are not processed through physical bank branches under the applicable holiday schedule.

Bank Closing of Accounts: This is generally observed on April 1 for annual account closing activities.

What Should Bank Customers Do?

If you need to visit a branch for cash-related work, documentation, cheque services or other physical banking activities, check the holiday schedule before leaving home.

For routine transactions, digital options can still be used during holidays.

So, before planning your banking work next week, remember the key dates: August 13 for Imphal, August 15 across India and August 16 for the Sunday holiday.
