In India, no vehicle, whether two-wheeler or four-wheeler, can be driven without a valid driving license (DL).
If you’re caught driving without one, it can be costly. The Motor Vehicle Act now imposes a fine of ₹5000 for driving without a valid license, up from the previous fine of ₹500.
Here are some common DL-related mistakes you should avoid to prevent paying this hefty fine:
1. Driving Without a Valid DL
If you’re caught driving without a valid driving license, you could receive a fine of ₹5000. Always ensure you have your DL with you.
If you’re unable to carry the physical copy, keep a digital copy in apps like DigiLocker or mParivahan.
2. Driving with an Expired DL
Sometimes people forget that their DL has expired, which can lead to a ₹5000 fine.
To avoid this, make sure you renew your DL on time through Parivahan.gov.in.
3. Driving on a Learner’s License (LL)
If you’re driving with a Learner’s License (LL) and without a permanent DL holder accompanying you, you could be fined ₹5000.
Always have a permanent DL holder with you and ensure the “L” sign is displayed.
4. Providing Fake or Incorrect Documents
Presenting fake or incorrect documents can result in a ₹5000 fine. Always ensure that your DL is issued through the official government website or a recognized agency.
5. Driving Without a DL
Previously, the fine for driving without a DL was ₹500, but it has now been increased to ₹5000 under the Motor Vehicle Act.
The government has raised this fine by 10 times, so it’s crucial to avoid this mistake.
