Google is now using artificial intelligence (AI) in its Chrome browser and search engine to protect users from online scams. Users will now get scam alerts in real-time, directly on their devices.
The Chrome browser’s Safe Browsing feature has been upgraded with a new Enhanced Protection Mode.
This mode is now more active and will help protect users from pop-ups, phishing, and other online scams.
Google has added its AI model, Gemini Nano, which runs on the user’s phone or computer and checks websites for suspicious activity.
A key feature of this model is that it can detect new and previously unknown scams.
For Android users browsing on Chrome, Google has launched an AI-powered alert system. If a website sends suspicious notifications, Chrome will instantly warn the user.
The user can then choose to block the notifications or review the content before deciding.
If a warning turns out to be false, the user can choose to stop receiving future alerts from that website, putting full control in the user’s hands. Google Search can now detect more scam-related results than ever.
According to Google’s report “Fighting Scams in Search”, scam detection through AI has improved by 20 times.
Google’s AI can now scan website text, scam-related language, and suspicious patterns to track entire scam networks.
This means users will get alerts before they even visit a suspicious site.
