Cooperative Banks Open During Sept 28-30 Strike as the sector’s leading industry bodies have clarified that cooperative banking institutions will not participate in the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30, 2026.
Customers of cooperative banks can therefore continue to approach their respective branches for banking services during the strike period, subject to individual banks’ operating arrangements.
Cooperative Banks Open During Sept 28-30 Strike
The clarification comes after the United Forum of Bank Unions announced a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30.
The strike is primarily linked to demands concerning a five-day banking week and other employee-related issues.
The National Federation of Urban Cooperative Banks and Credit Societies, National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation, and National Federation of State Cooperative Banks have said cooperative banks are not participating in the proposed strike.
This means cooperative banking institutions are expected to continue their normal operations during the three-day strike period.
Which Cooperative Banks Will Continue Services?
The cooperative banking network includes Urban Cooperative Banks, State Cooperative Banks and District Central Cooperative Banks.
These institutions serve customers across rural, semi-urban and urban areas, including farmers, small businesses, traders and households.
Customers with branch-related banking requirements can continue contacting their cooperative bank during the strike dates.
However, the availability of specific services may vary between individual banks and branches.
For transactions that require physical branch processing, customers are advised to confirm the operating status and service availability with their respective bank before visiting.
Digital Banking Services During Bank Strike
Digital services offered by cooperative banks are also expected to remain available during the strike, depending on each bank’s systems and arrangements.
These services may include ATMs, internet banking, mobile banking and UPI payments. Customers should check with their own bank if they need to complete a transaction that depends on a particular service or branch-level processing.
Bank Strike Scheduled From September 28
The proposed bank strike will run from September 28 to September 30, 2026.
Public sector banks and Regional Rural Banks are expected to be more directly affected by the strike.
The government has also taken steps to reduce the impact on customers by allowing Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks to operate on Sunday, September 27, ahead of the strike.
For cooperative bank customers, however, the key clarification is that cooperative banking institutions have not joined the proposed strike and are expected to continue providing services during September 28-30.
