Stock Market Holiday will affect the trading schedule next week as the NSE and BSE will remain closed on Friday, October 2, due to Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
With Saturday and Sunday following the holiday, investors will get a three-day trading break.
The Indian stock market will therefore have only four trading sessions next week, from Monday to Thursday.
Stock Market Holiday on October 2
October 2 is listed as a market holiday for Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on Friday.
Trading will not take place on the domestic equity market during the holiday. Investors should keep the changed schedule in mind while planning their trades for the week.
Only Four Trading Days Next Week
The stock market will remain open from Monday to Thursday. After Thursday’s trading session, the market will remain closed for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
This means investors will have only four trading sessions to track market movements and company-related developments during the week.
Asian Markets Also Have Holidays
Several other Asian markets will also observe holidays during this period. Taiwan’s stock market will remain closed on Monday, September 28, for Teachers’ Day and is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, September 29.
China’s Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges will remain closed from October 1 to October 7 for National Day. Trading is scheduled to resume on October 8.
Hong Kong’s stock exchange will also remain closed on October 1 for National Day.
Sensex and Nifty Performance
The Sensex gained 315.20 points, or 0.43 percent, in the latest trading session to close at 73,895.74. During the session, the index touched a high of 73,968.05 and a low of 73,477.77.
The Nifty also gained 77.40 points, or 0.34 percent, to close at 23,140.50.
Despite the gains in the latest session, the weekly performance remained negative. The Sensex declined 399.22 points, or 0.53 percent, during the week, while the Nifty fell 205.9 points, or 0.88 percent.
The BSE Smallcap index gained 0.11 percent, while the BSE Midcap index declined 0.62 percent in the latest session.
