8th Pay Commission Mumbai meeting is scheduled for October 22 and 23, 2026, as the commission continues consultations with central government employee organisations, pensioner groups, associations and unions.
Interested organisations can request an appointment to meet the commission during its Mumbai visit.
According to the notice issued by the Finance Ministry on September 21, 2026, appointment requests have to be submitted through an online form by October 10, 2026.
8th Pay Commission Mumbai Meeting Schedule
The Mumbai visit is part of the 8th Central Pay Commission’s ongoing stakeholder consultation process. Organisations
and associations that want to present their views before the commission have been asked to submit appointment requests within the specified deadline.
Applicants will have to provide the Unique Memo ID received after submitting their memorandum. The exact venue and detailed schedule for the Mumbai meetings will be announced separately.
The commission has been consulting different groups in several cities to understand their demands and suggestions related to salaries, allowances, pensions and other service conditions.
Bengaluru Meeting Scheduled Before Mumbai
Before the Mumbai visit, the commission is scheduled to meet stakeholders in Bengaluru on October 7 and 8, 2026.
Organisations and associations interested in meeting the commission during the Bengaluru visit were required to submit their appointment requests by September 18.
The meetings in different cities are part of the wider consultation exercise being conducted by the commission before it prepares its recommendations.
8th Pay Commission Changes Consultant Rules
The commission has also revised its rules for engaging consultants. Under the updated framework, consultants have been divided into three categories — Senior Consultant, Consultant and Consultant (Young Professional).
The maximum number of positions in these categories is two, five and 16, respectively. The revised eligibility requirements also specify minimum relevant work experience for each category.
A Senior Consultant requires at least 10 years of relevant experience, while a Consultant needs six years or more. For a Young Professional, the requirement is at least two years of relevant experience.
The maximum age limits are 45 years for Senior Consultants, 40 years for Consultants and 32 years for Young Professionals, with August 1, 2026, specified as the cut-off date.
Commission Reviewing Pay and Pension Issues
The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted by the central government on November 3, 2025. Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai is heading the commission.
The panel has been tasked with reviewing the salaries, pensions and allowances of central government employees and pensioners and making recommendations to the government.
The government has provided the commission with 18 months to submit its report. The consultation meetings being held with employee and pensioner organisations form part of the process of collecting views and representations before the report is prepared.
The commission has also invited professionals with experience in areas such as human resources, industrial relations, law, technology and data analysis, subject to the prescribed eligibility requirements.
Experience related to salary structures, compensation packages and establishment matters is also relevant under the revised consultant framework.
