LPG Biometric Aadhaar authentication will be required from October 1, 2026, for domestic LPG consumers who want to book refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy.
The government says 27.43 crore consumers, or 89.9% of the total, have already completed the authentication and do not need to repeat it.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said the requirement is aimed at ensuring that subsidised LPG reaches genuine and eligible households while helping prevent duplicate or ineligible connections and diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use.
LPG Biometric Aadhaar Rule Explained
Under the new requirement, consumers who have not completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will need to finish the process to continue booking subsidised domestic LPG refills at the regulated retail price from October 1.
Consumers who have already completed BAA do not need to undergo the process again. The ministry has said their LPG refills will continue as before.
The government has been carrying out Aadhaar-based authentication of LPG consumers to improve the targeting of subsidy benefits and identify duplicate or ineligible connections.
What Happens If LPG e-KYC Is Not Completed
Consumers who have not completed the authentication may still be able to obtain LPG, but they may not receive the applicable subsidy at the regulated retail price.
The ministry’s stated requirement specifically links BAA completion with booking subsidised domestic LPG refills.
This means consumers who have not completed the process should check their authentication status before October 1.
The requirement applies to customers who remain unauthenticated, rather than those who have already completed the verification.
How to Complete LPG Aadhaar Authentication
LPG Biometric Aadhaar authentication can be completed through multiple channels.
Consumers can complete it during cylinder delivery, visit their LPG distributor’s showroom, or use the mobile applications provided by oil marketing companies.
Indane customers can use the IndianOil ONE app, Bharatgas customers can use the HelloBPCL app and HP Gas customers can use the HP PAY app for the authentication process.
The process can also be completed when the delivery person arrives with the cylinder.
Consumers who prefer in-person verification can visit their distributor’s showroom and complete the required authentication there.
Who Has Already Completed e-KYC
According to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry, 27.43 crore domestic LPG consumers had already completed biometric Aadhaar authentication by September 2026.
These customers do not need to take any further action under the October 1 requirement.
The ministry has also said the authentication process is intended to make subsidy delivery more targeted and transparent.
Consumers who are yet to complete it have been advised to use one of the available channels before the new requirement takes effect.
For customers using Indane, Bharatgas or HP Gas, checking the respective company’s app can help confirm whether their LPG connection has already completed the required authentication.
