FASTag bank change is now possible without replacing the FASTag attached to your vehicle.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the OneTag portability facility through its Rajmargyatra App, allowing eligible users to change the issuer bank while retaining the existing tag.
Under the new facility, the physical FASTag on the vehicle remains the same.
Only the issuer bank and the wallet linked to the tag are changed, removing the need to obtain and install another FASTag.
FASTag Bank Change Without Replacing the Tag
The OneTag facility has been introduced to give FASTag users more flexibility when they want to change their issuer bank.
NHAI says the service is available through the Rajmargyatra App and guides users through the portability process.
The facility is particularly useful for vehicle owners whose existing FASTag is working properly but who want to move to another issuer bank.
The change can be completed digitally instead of removing the tag from the vehicle’s windscreen.
How to Change FASTag Issuer Bank
Users first need to log in to the Rajmargyatra App and enter their vehicle registration number. The app checks whether the existing FASTag is eligible for portability.
If the tag is eligible, the user needs to obtain a six-digit MVC, or verification code, from the existing FASTag issuer bank. The user can then select the preferred new issuer bank through the app.
After selecting the new bank, the required KYC and wallet setup process has to be completed. Once the process is successfully completed, the existing FASTag is linked to the new issuer bank.
Six-Month Cooling Period for FASTag Porting
FASTag bank change cannot be carried out repeatedly within a short period. A six-month cooling period applies after a FASTag is ported from one bank to another.
This means users have to wait six months after changing the issuer bank before they can port the same FASTag to another bank again.
The restriction is intended to prevent repeated and frequent portability requests.
What OneTag Means for FASTag Users
NHAI says FASTag adoption across the country is above 98%, with around 13 crore users.
The OneTag facility expands the digital services available to these users through the Rajmargyatra App.
Apart from OneTag, the Rajmargyatra App also provides services such as FASTag Annual Pass, FASTag Local Pass and the National Highway emergency helpline 1033.
For users considering a bank change, the important point is that an eligible existing FASTag does not need to be physically replaced
The user can follow the portability process in the Rajmargyatra App and complete the required verification and KYC steps.
