CNG has become more expensive for people in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and nearby areas.
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased CNG prices by ₹3.89 per kg, and the new rates came into effect from 6 AM on Saturday, August 29.
The price hike will affect private car owners as well as auto-rickshaw, taxi, and commercial vehicle drivers. It could also increase daily travel costs for commuters.
New CNG Price in Delhi
After the latest revision, the price of CNG in Delhi has increased from ₹83.09 per kg to ₹86.98 per kg.
This is the biggest CNG price hike of the year. Earlier, on May 17, IGL had raised CNG prices by ₹1 per kg.
Why Did IGL Increase CNG Prices?
IGL said the price hike is mainly due to the sharp rise in liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices in the international market.
According to the company, ongoing tensions in West Asia have pushed global LNG prices higher. Since a large share of the gas used for CNG comes from imported LNG, the company is facing higher costs.
Global Energy Crisis Behind the Hike
IGL said the increase was necessary to recover part of the higher input costs caused by expensive imported gas.
Global oil and gas prices have remained under pressure due to geopolitical tensions, including disruptions linked to the conflict involving Iran
and the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest energy shipping routes. As a result, the cost of importing natural gas has increased, leading to higher CNG prices in India.
