Delhi motorists with pending traffic challans will soon get another option to settle eligible cases.
The Delhi District Courts are introducing Weekend Traffic Courts (WTC) across the capital.
The initiative is designed to reduce the huge backlog of traffic cases while making it easier for vehicle owners to deal with their pending challans.
When Will Weekend Traffic Courts Operate?
The Weekend Traffic Courts will operate on the second Saturday and every Sunday of the month at all district court complexes in Delhi.
The courts will remain open from 10 AM to 4 PM, with proceedings divided into two time slots:
10 AM to 1 PM
2 PM to 4 PM
According to the official notice, the Weekend Traffic Courts will start functioning from July 5, 2026.
How Can You Settle Your Traffic Challan?
Motorists can download their challan slips from the official Delhi Traffic Police website using their vehicle registration number.
The challan download facility will be available from June 25, 2026, at 10 AM.
While downloading the challan, motorists will need to choose:
Their preferred district court complex
Date of appearance
Preferred time slot
On the selected date, the motorist will have to visit the chosen court and carry a printed copy of the challan slip for submission before the concerned judge.
Which Challans Can Be Settled?
The Weekend Traffic Courts will deal only with compoundable traffic offences.
These are offences that can generally be settled by paying the prescribed fine.
More serious non-compoundable offences will continue to be handled through the regular judicial process.
Why Has Delhi Introduced Weekend Traffic Courts?
The move comes as Delhi faces a massive backlog of pending traffic challans.
According to Delhi Traffic Police data cited in the report, more than 4.3 crore challans and camera-generated notices were pending as of June 15.
This includes over 1 crore on-the-spot challans and around 3.3 crore notices generated through automated enforcement systems.
The Weekend Traffic Courts are expected to help authorities dispose of these cases faster.
Other Ways To Clear Traffic Challans
The new weekend facility is not the only option available to motorists.
Eligible challans can also be settled through the Virtual Court platform, which is available around the clock and does not require a physical visit.
In addition, evening courts operate on working days from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Certain cases are also sent to Lok Adalats from time to time for faster and bulk disposal.
With Weekend Traffic Courts now being added to these options, Delhi motorists will have more flexibility to clear eligible pending challans without having to visit a regular court during working hours.
