Teachers and employees working in higher educational institutions across Uttar Pradesh have received a major health and insurance benefit.
Under the Chief Minister’s Teacher Cashless Scheme, eligible teachers and staff will get cashless medical treatment and insurance coverage.
The scheme was launched on Sunday, and the Higher Education Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Punjab National Bank (PNB) to implement it.
Free Treatment Up to ₹5 Lakh Every Year
The scheme will benefit more than 1.28 lakh teachers working in government, aided, and self-financed universities and colleges across Uttar Pradesh.
Each eligible family will receive cashless treatment of up to ₹5 lakh per year at empaneled government and private hospitals. The health card can be used from the very first day it is issued.
The government will bear the entire cost of hospitalization, treatment, medicines, and discharge expenses.
Insurance Cover Up to ₹3 Crore
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the scheme has now been expanded to include more than 50,000 non-teaching employees. As a result, around 10 lakh people in the state are expected to benefit from health and social security.
Under the agreement, teachers and employees will receive several financial benefits, including:
Financial assistance of ₹1.5 crore to ₹3 crore in case of accidents or other unfortunate incidents.
Hospital cash benefit of up to ₹60,000.
Term life insurance cover of up to ₹12 lakh.
The Chief Minister also requested PNB to extend the insurance benefits to teachers of private universities and self-financed institutions.
Treatment for 1,900+ Diseases
The scheme will be managed by SACHIS, and treatment will be provided at the same package rates as the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Beneficiaries will be able to receive treatment for more than 1,900 diseases, including expensive illnesses such as:
Cancer
Heart disease
Kidney disorders
Major surgeries
Special camps will also be organized across all districts to distribute health cards to eligible beneficiaries.
CM Yogi Urges Teachers to Fight Fake News
During the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also spoke about the growing influence of social media.
He said nearly 60% of young people now rely on smartphones and social media for information. However, fake and anonymous accounts can spread misinformation, create confusion, and increase hatred in society.
The Chief Minister urged teachers to help students identify the difference between true and false information. He also said that while AI
and new technology are becoming an important part of daily life, they should be used responsibly for the benefit of society and the nation.
He also appealed to teachers and students to stay alert against misinformation and anti-national activities.
The event was attended by several ministers, MPs, MLAs, university officials, and teachers. During the program, the Chief Minister also handed over the new health cards to selected teachers from universities and colleges across Agra.
