Heavy overnight rain lashed Delhi-NCR, including Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram, causing severe waterlogging and disrupting normal life on Thursday morning.
While the rainfall brought relief from the recent heat and humidity, it also led to traffic jams, flooded roads, and travel delays across the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi and has forecast more heavy rainfall throughout the day.
Airlines Issue Flight Advisories
The bad weather and poor visibility have affected flight operations at Delhi airport.
Major airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa Air, have advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport, as delays and cancellations are possible.
Air India said that adverse weather could impact flights to and from Delhi and urged passengers to verify the latest flight information before travelling.
IndiGo also reported disruptions to its flight schedule due to heavy rainfall.
The airline said it is closely monitoring the situation and requested passengers to stay updated through its website or mobile app.
Akasa Air warned that heavy rain in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Goa could delay flights across its network.
Passengers have been advised to check their flight status before starting their journey.
Waterlogging Disrupts Morning Commute
The heavy rain caused major waterlogging in several parts of Delhi, making the morning commute difficult for thousands of people.
Areas near New Delhi Railway Station and Munirka were among the worst affected, with flooded roads slowing traffic and causing long delays.
Many commuters faced difficulties reaching offices, schools, and other destinations due to the waterlogged streets.
More Rain Expected Over the Next Few Days
According to the IMD, monsoon activity is expected to remain strong over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh.
The weather department has predicted widespread rainfall until July 10, and residents are advised to stay alert, avoid waterlogged areas, and check weather and travel updates before heading out.
