There is good news for customers of SBI. The two-day nationwide strike planned by bank employees for May 25 and 26, 2026, has now been officially postponed.
Because of this decision, all SBI branches across the country will remain open and banking services will continue without interruption.
The news has brought major relief to millions of customers who were worried about delays in important banking work.
Strike Postponed After Positive Meeting
The decision was taken after a long meeting between SBI management and the employees’ union, the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF), at the bank’s Corporate Center in Mumbai.
According to union officials, the discussions were positive and progress was made on several important demands raised by employees.
After receiving a positive response from the management, the union decided to postpone the strike for the time being.
Four-Day Banking Problem Avoided
Customers were especially worried because banks were already closed on May 23 due to the fourth Saturday and on May 24 because of Sunday.
If the strike had continued on May 25 and 26, banking services could have remained affected for four straight days.
Important work like cheque clearance, cash deposits, withdrawals, loan processing, and demand drafts could have faced major delays.
Now, customers can complete their banking work without stress.
Main Demands of Employees
The employees’ union had submitted a 16-point demand list to SBI management.
Some of the major demands included hiring more permanent staff in branches, filling vacant Messenger and Armed Guard posts, and stopping outsourcing of regular bank work.
Employees also demanded better salaries, solutions to pension-related issues, and improved work-life balance.
The union also asked for employees under the National Pension System (NPS) to get the option of choosing their fund manager.
SBI Assures Customers
After the strike was postponed, SBI issued an official statement assuring customers that all services will continue normally.
The bank said all branches will remain open from Monday onward.
SBI also confirmed that ATMs, internet banking, mobile banking, and YONO services will continue to work 24 hours a day without interruption.
Customers have been advised to visit their nearest branch normally for all financial transactions.
