Updating your Aadhaar address has often been a challenge, especially if you don’t have a valid residence proof. This can create problems in banking, government schemes, and many everyday services.

To make things easier, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new and helpful feature.

New Rule Makes Aadhaar Update Easier

Under the new rule, you can now update your Aadhaar address with the consent of the head of your family. This means you don’t always need separate address proof in your own name.

You can simply use the address of the family head and get your Aadhaar updated.

The process is simple:

Apply online through the UIDAI portal

Pay a small fee of ₹50

Your address will be updated within 30 days

This update is especially useful for people who live with family but don’t have individual address documents.

How to Apply Online

The application process is straightforward and can be done from home.

First, log in to the UIDAI portal. Then go to the Address Update section and select the “Family Head Based Address Update” option.

After that:

Enter the Aadhaar number of the head of the family

Upload a document that proves your relationship

Pay the ₹50 fee and submit the application

Once submitted, you will receive a Service Request Number (SRN) to track your application.

Documents You Can Use

To confirm your relationship with the family head, you can submit documents like:

Ration card

Marriage certificate

Passport

Marksheet

If you don’t have these documents, there is still a solution. UIDAI allows a self-declaration form, which the head of the family can fill out to confirm the relationship.

Important Points to Remember

After applying, UIDAI reviews your request. If everything is correct, your application will be approved within 30 days, and you will receive a confirmation message.

However, there’s one important catch.

If your address is not updated within 30 days, the application will be automatically cancelled. In such cases, the ₹50 fee will not be refunded.

So, it’s important to ensure that all details and documents are correct to avoid rejection.

This new feature makes Aadhaar updates much more accessible and convenient, especially for families who share the same address.
