Early March has brought intense sunlight and rising temperatures, making afternoons difficult to bear in many cities.
Temperatures are soaring to 33–35°C in cities like Delhi, Lucknow, and Patna.
The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts as a new western disturbance is set to affect weather patterns, bringing both rain and snowfall in the mountains and temperature fluctuations in the plains.
Heat Wave in the Plains
The early March heat is unusually high, raising concerns about potential heat wave conditions in several states.
Strong winds and light rain may occur sporadically, but the plains are expected to stay hot.
Delhi-NCR
In Delhi, temperatures will rise sharply from March 6th, with daytime highs between 33–35°C and nighttime lows around 15–17°C.
The sky will remain clear, and the sun will shine brightly, making afternoons especially warm.
Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand
Uttar Pradesh is likely to stay dry and hot, with temperatures reaching 35°C in many districts. Lucknow may record a high of 32°C.
Meanwhile, hilly areas of Uttarakhand could see light rain and snowfall between March 8 and 11.
Bihar & Jharkhand
Temperatures in Bihar and Jharkhand are expected to continue rising.
Isolated light rain may occur around March 9th in Jharkhand and March 11th in Bihar, along with strong winds and thunderstorms in some regions.
Punjab & Haryana
The heat wave will intensify in Punjab and Haryana, with temperatures 4–6°C above normal.
Bright sunshine and hot winds are expected, and no rain is forecast.
Himachal Pradesh & Jammu & Kashmir
A weak western disturbance will bring light rain and snowfall between March 7–11, causing a slight drop in temperatures and making mountain weather more pleasant.
Madhya Pradesh & Rajasthan
Heat is increasing rapidly, with temperatures 4–8°C above normal.
In southwestern Rajasthan, temperatures could reach 40°C in the coming days, making the afternoons extremely hot.
Eastern, Southern, and Western India
South India
A depression over the Gulf of Mannar will bring light rain and drizzle in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and districts along the Western Ghats.
Temperatures are gradually rising despite the rain.
Gujarat & Maharashtra
Coastal areas will experience hot and humid conditions, with a heatwave warning for the Konkan region.
Interior Maharashtra may see temperatures rise by 2–3°C over the next day.
North-Eastern States
Assam, Meghalaya, and nearby states may experience rain, thunderstorms, and lightning between March 8–11, with strong winds in some areas.
