Large parts of North India are facing intense cold conditions.
States like Delhi, Punjab, and Rajasthan are witnessing harsh winter weather, making daily life difficult for people.
According to weather officials, the cold spell is likely to continue for the next few days, with no major relief in sight.
At the same time, fog has added to the trouble in several regions, especially in Jharkhand.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Dense Fog in Jharkhand
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in 15 districts of Jharkhand for the next two days.
Due to thick fog, visibility may remain very low in many areas.
The IMD has warned that fog may continue till around 8:30 am on January 4, urging people to stay alert while traveling, especially during early morning hours.
Districts Under Fog Alert
The yellow alert covers several districts, including Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Sahibganj, and Pakur.
According to the weather department, dense fog is likely to persist until Sunday morning.
Fog is also expected to return by January 5, affecting Ranchi and nearby areas.
Visibility may drop to 50–200 meters, which could disrupt road traffic, pedestrian movement, and even air travel.
Cold Intensifies, Ranchi Likely to See Dense Fog
Cold conditions intensified across Jharkhand on Saturday.
Gumla recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 6.6°C.
Daltonganj and Pakur recorded 8.3°C, while Khunti saw a minimum temperature of 9.4°C.
The capital city Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 12.3°C.
Weather officials said there will be no major change in minimum temperatures over the next 24 hours.
However, a western disturbance between January 4 and 6 may cause temperatures to drop by about 3°C.
Dense fog is also likely in Ranchi and surrounding areas on Monday, so residents are advised to remain cautious.
With cold waves and fog continuing together, people in North India should take necessary precautions, especially while traveling early in the morning.
