The Delhi Traffic Police has introduced a new way for residents to pay their pending traffic challans instantly using UPI.
This comes after the traffic department integrated challan payments with the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).
Now, citizens can pay fines directly through any BBPS-enabled UPI app in real time.
How to Pay Your Traffic Challan Easily
Many people struggle with paying traffic fines and often wait for Lok Adalat hearings.
With this new system, paying a challan has become simple and time-saving.
Once you receive a challan message on your mobile, you can enter your vehicle registration number in your UPI app to see all pending challans.
Payments can be made immediately, and an auto-generated confirmation will be sent to your phone.
The status will also be updated on the Delhi Traffic Police website.
Paying Challans Directly Through UPI
Earlier, challans issued on the road could only be paid via cash or QR code generated by a traffic officer.
Now, the challan will appear directly in your UPI app, and payment can be completed instantly.
To avoid fraud, always check that the message includes your vehicle’s engine and chassis number.
Many fake messages only show the registration number, while real traffic messages include all three details.
How Many Challans Are Pending in Delhi?
Delhi currently has around 40 million pending traffic challans.
On average, 25,000 new challans are issued daily, but only 12,000–15,000 are settled through evening and virtual courts.
Additionally, about 1.8 lakh challans are cleared each month in Lok Adalats.
This new UPI payment system is expected to make it much easier for citizens to stay up to date with their traffic fines and avoid legal hassles.
