No Fee for Aadhaar Biometric Updates for Children

Updating biometric details in Aadhaar has become completely free, but only for a specific age group.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that for the next one year, children between the ages of 5 and 15 can update their biometric details without paying any fee.

This update is important because these biometric changes are mandatory once a child turns 5 and again when they turn 15.

UIDAI wants to make the process easier and encourage families to complete these required updates on time.

Why UIDAI Made This Change

To increase the number of biometric updates among children, UIDAI has partnered with Behavioural Insights Limited (BIT).

This collaboration aims to spread awareness, remove practical difficulties, and encourage parents to complete their children’s mandatory biometric updates.

With accurate biometrics in Aadhaar, children will be able to access essential Aadhaar-linked services and benefits without any issues.

The goal is to ensure that every child’s Aadhaar remains valid and up to date.

Free Updates Available Until September 30, 2026

Children must update their fingerprint, iris scan, and photo after they turn 5, and once more after turning 15.

To support this, UIDAI has removed all fees for these updates for kids aged 5 to 15.

This decision, effective from October 1, 2025, is expected to help nearly 60 million children across the country.

The free update window will remain open for one full year, ending on September 30, 2026.
