Now, children below 5 years of age can travel for free, but only if you don’t request a separate seat or berth.

If you want a seat or berth for your child, you’ll have to pay the full adult fare.

Updated Railway Child Ticket Policy

Rule 1:
Children under 5 years can travel without a ticket when sharing a seat or berth with an adult.
If you request a separate seat or berth, the full ticket price will be charged.

But if you want a separate berth, the full adult fare applies.

Children above 12 years are considered adults and must pay the full fare.

Important Booking Tips for Parents

Tip 1:
Always enter your child’s correct age while booking tickets on the IRCTC website or app.
If the age is entered incorrectly, the ticket may become invalid.

Tip 2:
Carry an age certificate or Aadhaar card for your child, as railway staff may ask for proof.

Also, pack a small bag with essentials like medicines, water, and snacks to make the journey more comfortable.
