Emirates bans power bank use on flights from october 1

Starting October 1, 2025, Emirates Airlines will implement a strict ban on the use of power banks during flights.

Passengers are now allowed to carry only one power bank with a capacity of less than 100Wh in their carry-on luggage.

Using or charging the power bank during the flight is strictly prohibited, and violations may lead to penalties.

Here’s what passengers need to know:

Only one power bank is allowed per passenger, and its capacity must be under 100Wh, clearly marked on the device.

Additional Rules:

Must be carried in carry-on baggage only; not allowed in checked-in luggage.

Cannot be placed in the overhead bin; must stay in the seat pocket or under the seat in front.

Must be easily accessible so crew can act in emergencies.

If the power bank overheats or malfunctions, show it to the crew immediately.

Why Emirates Took This Step

Power banks with lithium-ion batteries carry a risk of thermal runaway, where the battery temperature rises uncontrollably, potentially causing fire or explosion.

Low-quality power banks increase this risk, as they may lack safety features like auto shut-off or temperature control.

Other major airlines like Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, EVA Air, China Airlines, and AirAsia have also banned the use of power banks after several incidents.

Notably, in 2023, a fire on an Air Busan flight injured 27 passengers, caused by a power bank.

Safety Tips for Passengers

To avoid issues and stay safe:

Fully charge your devices before your flight.

Use in-seat charging ports if available.

Ensure your power bank shows capacity under 100Wh.

Never put power banks in checked luggage.

Follow crew instructions; otherwise, the power bank may be confiscated or you could be denied boarding.

This new rule ensures passenger safety.

All travelers should comply with these guidelines before flying with Emirates.
