The operation of Bhuni Toll Plaza on the Meerut-Karnal highway is now managed by a new company, Surya International.
After completing the tender process conducted by NHAI, the company officially began toll collection on Wednesday.
Recently, NHAI had invited tenders for the Bhuni Toll Plaza’s collection and operation system. Surya International emerged as the successful bidder,
and once the handover process was complete, toll collection by the company started immediately.
Background of the Toll Plaza Incident
It is important to note that on August 17, toll employees tied army jawan Kapil, a resident of Gotka village, to a pole and beat him.
The next day, local residents protested by creating a ruckus and vandalizing the toll plaza.
Following this, the police arrested eight people involved in the case. NHAI canceled the contract of the previous toll operator, M/s Dharam Singh, fined the company Rs 20 lakh, and confiscated the security deposit of Rs 3.7 crore.
New Contract and Future Expectations
Surya International won the new contract by bidding Rs 12 crore 77 lakh 95 thousand.
After completing the formalities, the company officially took over the toll operations on Wednesday.
Local residents hope that the arrival of the new company will improve the facilities and arrangements at the toll plaza.
NHAI has given Surya International the responsibility to operate the toll under the terms of the contract.
Currently, the contract is valid for three months, and all employees working at the toll plaza have been appointed from outside the local area.
