Do you still have old ₹2,000 notes? Wondering if you can exchange them and where to do so? It’s been over two years since the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the withdrawal of ₹2,000 notes from circulation.
But recent data shows that ₹2,000 notes worth ₹6,017 crore are still in the system. RBI shared this update in its report. Here’s how you can exchange or deposit your old ₹2,000 notes.
98.31% of ₹2,000 Notes Returned
RBI declared the withdrawal of ₹2,000 notes on 19 May 2023. Back then, these notes totaled ₹3.56 lakh crore in value.
Now, only about ₹6,017 crore worth remain, meaning 98.31% of the notes have been returned.
₹2,000 Notes Are Still Legal Tender
RBI has confirmed that ₹2,000 notes are still valid currency. You can use them for transactions. However, many banks and shopkeepers commonly refuse to accept them now.
