The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has increased the monthly pension amount for journalists.
Earlier, under the Bihar Journalist Samman Pension Scheme, eligible journalists were receiving ₹6,000 per month.
Now, this has been raised to ₹15,000 per month. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar shared this update through a post on X.
He stated, “I am happy to inform that the department has been directed to provide ₹15,000 per month as pension to all eligible journalists, instead of ₹6,000.”
Pension for Dependents Also Increased
In case of the death of a journalist receiving the pension, their dependent spouse will now receive ₹10,000 per month for life. This amount was earlier ₹3,000.
The Chief Minister emphasized the vital role journalists play in a democracy. He said that journalists are the fourth pillar of democracy and contribute significantly to social development.
Government Support for Journalists
Nitish Kumar added that the government has always been mindful of journalists’ needs. The aim is to ensure they can practice journalism fairly and lead a dignified life even after retirement.
